When Plans Go Out The Window

In our businesses we lay out our goals and plans. If we have done our business plan in the correct manner we should have in place areas if we are sick. There should be instructions telling people how to run our business in simple to understand terms. But there is one thing that may through all our plans out the window.

Here in the UK we have had some bad weather, snow and ice for almost four weeks now. And just just a bit here and there, almost the whole country has had some form of snow and ice, and in some areas we are talking several feet of snow. At times the snow

was falling so fast that in a matter of a few hours there was 20cm on the ground. It looked pretty, but it became very dangerous, as over night we have had temperatures down to minus -14c. It was like skating rings.

As you can guess this has had a massive knock on effect. Airports closed, Trains cancelled, Roads blocked, people trapped in cars for days. It is at times like this that Plans just go out the window. Online Retailers, have over the last few days taken steps and have posted notices on their sites warning people orders placed will not arrive in time for Christmas. Notice it is may not, but will not.

One of the carriers are now saying that there will be no deliveries in Scotland until after January 5th, and if there is more snow and ice this could delay things even further. Fun times

For me, I am still sending items out to people but before they pay for them, I am telling them the worst, and also emailing the information from the Met Office and Royal Mail. So far they have all been happy. In closing is this something we online sellers could have planned for? NO it is not…………………………. we need to just sit out the weather, keep our clients informed, keep warm and keep working. Let’s have some feed back on what happens when your plans go out the window.
