Web Hosting
For this weeks Tool Tuesday I have chosen Web Hosting. Now you may be thinking, what does web hosting have to do with someone selling on sites such as eBay. Well on the surface nothing at all. But if your are really serious about selling online it can mean a great deal to you. And the low cost you spend out each month on it can save you a load of money and even make you money.
So what is web hosting?
Because I want to keep this article brief and to the point I will just keep this simple, web hosting is somewhere where you store webpages, pictures, etc that you want people to look at. For example I host this blog on with a web hosting company. They allow me to store data (words and pictures), and they allow people to view the data. Yes there is so much more to web hosting (things like ftp, files, and loads of funny names, but for today that’s all you need know.
So How Can A Web Host Save Me Money?
Here in the UK in most of our eBay listings we are only allowed one free picture then we have to pay for the rest. Yes you can pay for a picture pack, and yes those to save money, but they themselves cost a few pounds, so if you were listing 12 items a month you could be paying out £24.00 just for pictures, and if that was daily I would hate to think the cost. eBay allows you to pull in pictures from your own sources (Yes you can use photobucket etc). But with your own hosting you can have blogs, and other sites as well. Anyway if you chose a company such as Hostgator and go for their baby package then monthly cost is under $9.00 (£7.00) a month, so you can see the massive savings.
But pictures are just part of the story, you can have your own blog or blogs, and can add a few websites in the mix as well. The Baby Package from HostGator allows you to host unlimited sites and pictures for this low cost (And when needed you can move up to the next level as in life unlimited does have it limits, but if you do get to that stage, do not worry as you will be making so much money, you will not worry – and the costs are only a bit more anyway).
Over the coming months I will be talking more about why it is important having your own web hosting the the power it can bring to your eBay and other online ventures.
