Christmas has come and gone and we have started a New Year and also another decade. How times flies…………………One of the questions I get asked a lot is “How do I keep track of my goals and to-do list”.  Well there are many different ways. You can do it on your computer either online or offline. With the modern cell phone you can keep your list on there. Then we go to the bits of paper, or just in your head. Now while all of them have their good points and also bad points, there is another way, that can help you in other areas of your business as well. The desk diary.

I guess you may have been given one or more of these and if not you can buy one quite cheap from most shopping malls or online. The steps I have found that have helped me are :

@ Each night before you go to bed list the items you need to do on the the next day. (Also you can add things in advance if you know you will be doing these jobs).

@ Each time you complete one of the items put a tick by it and move on the next item.

@ If you need to add jobs, just put them at the bottom of the list and work your way through.

By keeping them in a diary you will have a record of all you do. Now you may be thinking why would I want to keep a record of all the tasks I do each day in my business, and it is a question I would have asked a few years ago. The reason is you can cross reference the tasks you do with your web stats and business enquiries.

Before you had this reference tool to look back on you would have seen spikes in your online traffic and have thought wow, I had loads of calls today, I wonder why. Well now you have this diary, you can look back and see what you had done on that day or week before that had caused the surge in traffic and business.

Also if your traffic drops you can take a look and see what you have done (or not done) that caused this drop in business and traffic. It is also a good idea to note down in the diary any major news local, national or international that may effect your traffic and business. By doing this you will build up a pattern for your marketing, and the following years you will know what works and does not work.
