Keywords
Today we are going to look at the wonderful and exciting world of Keywords (well they are to me, and I hope they too will become part of your life once we have finished this article). It does not matter if you sell on eBay, Amazon, Etsy, your own site. you need to know and learn what keywords are and how they will help you sell more items and get more visitors to your sites.

As an eBay Consultant one of the questions I ask a client is to show me their Keyword Sheet, this can be in any format that the client finds easy to use……………quite often I get a look and the question what is a keyword sheet. Or I just use words from the fact sheet that came with the product, Ok that may be the start, but also it might mean you are using the wrong keywords for the product, and also and more important the wrong words that your customers are using to find you.
In basic terms your keyword sheets are full of words and phrases that your customers use on a daily basis to find the products you are selling. Notice the words Customers are using, not what you the seller uses or the company uses, but words and phrases that the customer uses to find an item on sites such as Google and eBay. Sadly one of the big mistakes that sellers use online is using words and phrases that they think the customer will use and not what the customer does use.
When you get into the fantastic world of keywords you will soon be hooked, and the light will come on and you will start to see items that are called one thing by the manufacturing company are in fact called something else by the person buying the item. A quick example of this is say you sell Dyson Cleaners. These all have their own names for example Dyson DC07. Now while a customer may use that keyword phrase to search for the cleaner on eBay, other people may put bagless hover, or bright coloured bagless Vacuum cleaner.
The keyword list will help you when you come to write titles, descriptions, articles, blog posts, guides etc. It is a fact that if you do not use the words your customers use, you will be missing out on a lot of traffic and you will be missing out on lots of sales. The right keywords used in the right way will mean increased traffic and we all know that increased traffic means more sales and more sales means more profit for you.
One of the best tools to find the right keywords is the Google Keyword Tool. You can find this at Google Keyword Tool. Here you can enter one keyword and within seconds will be presented with hundreds of other keywords that people have used when they have been searching for your main keyword. You will see miss-spellings and yes if your keyword can be miss-spelt then you will need to use this “bad” spelling in your description.
Hope you have found this article useful and if you need any help with Keywords as an eBay Consultant I do offer a service where I will set up your keyword sheets for you. For further information please send an email to info@myauctionempires.com and put Keywords in the subject line.
