July And August Are Great Months For Product Sourcing

Well summer is here once again. Schools will be breaking up over the next few weeks, andEbay, Amazon, Product Sourcing, eBay Consultant, Amazon Consultant people will have their minds fixed on holidays and how to entertain the children over the next six to eight weeks.

But did you also know that July and August are well known for something else………. (Apart from slower sales on eBay and Amazon). Yes July and August are fantastic months for product sourcing. To start with sourcing items online can be a lot cheaper. Why? Well because sales are slower online retailers will often slash their prices right down and for us who resell can take advantage of this and pick up some great bargains that we can buy and and then relist a bit later and make some very nice profits.

But there are also some other great places we can look for bargains that we can pick up for next to nothing.

  • Antique and Collectors Fairs. This niche also suffers badly during the summer, and this allows those who buy and sell in this niche to gather some fantastic items at lower than normal costs.
  • Take a look around those pop up shops that appear around this time of year. If the shop is in the last few days of their appearance in that area, they might discount their goods. Also if the items fall within your niche and you have some spare cash and it is the last day of the pop up shop and the owner has stock left over – ask them if they would be willing to sell their left over items to you for a very low cost. You will be surprised as a lot of these people will just say yes.
  • Try and attend as ,any offline auctions during this time as well, as very often there is a low turn out and the items go for very little money. Also remember you can attend these offline auctions by going online using sites such as i-bidder.
  • Carboot Sales
  • Jumble Sales
  • Craft Markets
  • Craft Fairs
  • School Fates
  • Church Fates
  • ETC, ETC

I hope the above has started the thought process and just write down all of those places you can go and source items. And once you have sourced you buy and then you need to list those items and then rinse and repeat.

Remember in all of this you are sourcing items for a low cost and reselling for a higher cost.

Happy Sourcing

Do Toys Sell All Year Round On Amazon?

One of the top questions as an Amazon Consultant I am asked is “Do toys sell all year round on Amazon? Basically, the answer is a big yes they do. I mean children have birthdays, Christenings, Dedications, Well done in exams, and also believe it or not people just like to buy their children a toy, just because they love them. So yes toys do sell all year round on Amazon.

As one would guess we get to see a growing trend as we approach Q4 and this peaks in and around December, and you will then see the large spike start to trial off the end of December and start of January.

But did you know you can make a very nice profit selling used / secondhand toys – these are often called collectable on Amazon.  Over the years I have been selling on Amazon and eBay I love to source used toys as they are often very cheap and often free of charge. They are in plentiful supply, and parents and grandparents welcome you with open arms as you are helping them declutter their homes and make room for new toys and games.

Again having done this for over 15 years I have found this sourcing and reselling can be done throughout the year, but there does seem to be a trend early December and just after the Christmas period. I have put this down to parents clearing out before Christmas to make room for the new toys to come into the home and the after Christmas spike is people getting rid of old toys and even some brand new items that were not a hit or a duplicate present was bought.

So where do you find these used toys?

Well, in fact, they are all around you. After you have decluttered your own home you can –

  • Ask family and friends if they have unwanted toys and games in their home, of course, you offer to buy them, but very often you find people just hand them to you.
  • Put up postcards in local shops and community boards
  • Run adverts in CraigsList, GumTree, FaceBook Buy and Sell Groups, Community Papers, Church Magazine, Flyers through letterboxes and of course word of mouth.
  • Estate Sales, Garage Sales, Carboot Sales (UK), Church Sales, Jumble Sales
  • Neighbours

Now, of course, the items you sell on Amazon need to be in very good condition and no pieces missing. Due to the format of buying using games, you will have games with pieces missing. Now you can either just through them away, or you can keep them and hope to have another game soon that is missing a part but you can mix and match the parts to finish up with a complete game.

But what I will often do is to break down the game and sell the bits on eBay and you can make a nice little side income selling parts of games. If you do not believe me pop along to eBay and do a search for Monopoly spare parts. You will be amazed.

So what are you waiting for, look around your home find all those toys and board games that are no longer being used and those of them that are in good condition list on Amazon, and then watch the profits start to come in.

What’s Selling On eBay Right Now?

As an eBay seller have you ever wondered what was selling on eBay right now? Yes you can buy Terapeak and to be honest if you are serious about selling on eBay this is a must have tool. But for the new sellers, this is not always possible due to the costs of Terapeak.

So is there another way? Yes, eBay has a great site called Datalabs where it tests out programs and pages that we can use to help build our eBay business to the next level.

The page I am talking about today is  http://datalabs.ebay.com/trending.html#/gb/index

This page updates itself every sixty minutes and you can set it to either selling items or watched the choice is all yours.

This is a very simple but powerful tool and it has helped me over the past few weeks find some cool items that I was able to buy and make some money on. But also it has helped me research ideas for bundles, and also ideas for Private Label (PL) items.

But with all things you need to think outside the box. Yes it tells us the fast selling items on eBay, but remember other people will have seen the data as well, so think big and think outside of that box.

Also you need to take action, the longer you leave taking action on a product the more chance you have for others beating you to the market. I can tell you over the years the number of times I have delayed taking action on an item. Yes at times it worked in my favour, but other times I lost out.

So why not go take a look and see what’s selling on eBay and then take action by buying some stock.

Is It Safe To Buy Products From China To Resell?

A common question I get asked when covering Product Sourcing is it safe to buy products from China to resell on sites  such as eBay and Amazon and other sites including your own. Some ways I love to hear people thinking outside the box but other items I hesitate as in my heart I know it works, but the timing is not right for that person. As with any product sourcing ventures you need to ask questions and do your research. Research and questions are the key when you source products from countries such as China and India.

One of the big No’s when sourcing from overseas countries is do not touch brand named items. Sadly on sites such as Aliexpress and Alibaba you key in leading brand name items and right before your eyes hundreds and at time thousands of products pop up before your eyes – The sad thing is most of these will be copies or fake items – if you buy these not only could you lose your money, you lose the stock and could even land yourself in trouble with Customs and could lose your Amazon Account. So please do not source Brand name items.

Another thing you need to check is that there is no design pattern being broken on items you are thinking of sourcing now this is harder to do, but if the item looks very similar to a brand name item then ask questions and do a bit more digging/

By now you are most likely thinking I am scared to source from China, but please do not be. I wanted to paint a dark picture of what can happen if you are not careful – but look on the bright side of things the same thing can happen if you are not careful sourcing items from the USA or UK.

  • To make it simple it is better to start on Aliexpress. The layout of the site is like eBay – you have feedback, can see number of sales per items and percentages of sales etc. If you stick to the top sellers then you are will be ok.
  • Also with Aliexpress you pay Aliexpress direct thus your money is covered if the products do not arrive, are no as described are faulty etc.
  • You can buy just one item to test it – and delivery is very often free, so testing different companies is very cost effective. When buying samples I would always buy at least three. One to test, one for friends to test and one or two to take pictures with and do some test sales as long as the initial tests are all good

I have been product sourcing from China for many years across many different niches, categories and products and have never had any serious issues with any of the companies. You find the people you deal with – often girls with cute sounding names speak perfect English and write perfect English. They will talk over Skype and answer all your questions and concerns and help you through any shipping issues you may have.

So if you are looking to diversify your product range why not spend some time and look on Aliexpress and later Alibaba when you want larger amounts, and see what you can find.

The main thing is as with any product sourcing is take time, do your research and if it looks too good to be true – it most likely is. So next week block out some time and go and do some product sourcing on Aliexpress and see what you can find. Happy Product Sourcing.

Products To Resell Are Really Out There

Well can you believe it, January is almost gone and before you know it it will be February2 then March. And in those two months we have three large and profitable buying periods, any guesses to what they are?  Well let me tell you…………………

  • Valentines Day
  • Mother’s Day (UK)
  • Easter

I know what your thinking to yourself no way can it be Easter so soon we have only just got over Christmas, but I am afraid it is. And before you know it, it will be Summer. A scary thought and when you work in retail the months seem to fly by even faster as we are always working several months ahead so we can source, buy and send into Amazon ready for the start of the buying season.

A very common question I hear all the time is, but where do we find the products to buy to resell. Honestly these items are all around you. Walk into any shop in the UK (or world) and right there in front of you is the potential to make some money, we just need to scan the items with our phone and see what the app tells us.

Apps such as ScanPower, Amazon Sellers App and Profit Bandit are some of the best, right in front of our eyes we can see if the item we have scanned has the potential to make us some money on Amazon. Sometimes the answer is yes and other times the answer is no. When it is a no we can either put the item back on the shelf, or we can think to ourselves could we put this item into a bundle and still make money.

Bundles are a great way and very profitable way to make good money. They also help you stand out from the crowd and make your bundle listing unique. Over the coming weeks we will be looking at bundles and how by adding them to your business model you can take your business to the next level.

But before we can move into bundles you need to understand that there are millions of items out there in regular stores offline and online that have the potential to make us money day in and day out. As a reseller we need to be prepared to take action, go out or go online each day and spend some time finding those items.

If we are prepared to do this on a regular basis very soon you will breakout of the mindset of not being able to find items to sell to finding items jumping out that are saying buy me. So to start the ball rolling you need to just go and take action and start scanning.

We are back with another UK Product Sourcing Tip and today looking at Chocolate and
Bundles.. Each on their own can make you money but when you bundles chocolate with some other products you are adding wonderful profit to your item  and bank account.

On the way home from Church walked into Lichfield and had a look in some shops before catching bus.

Several discounted sales in the shops, but picked up Thornton’s Chocolate 5 boxes for £20. This works out at £4.00 a box. Retail for £12.00 So on their own can make money but these will be bundled with candles and bath smellies.

Now you can buy the extras from places like Poundland, Home Bargains or B&M type stores.  Or from sights like https://www.ancientwisdom.biz

Always Remember keep those bundle radar eyes and ears open

Are People Becoming Disconnected With Each Other?

Let me ask you a question “Are people becoming disconnected with each other? Now you brainstorming.jpgmay think this is a strange title for an Amazon, eBay centered blog, and in some ways it is, but in another way I believe it hits the nail firmly on the head. We all, and yes I do include me in this to get out and away from our computers and smartphones and meet real people and talk with them face to face. (Yes I do include Skype etc in this).

I have been thinking about this for sometime and today I saw something that made me stop and think, Is this really where we are as a human race.

Picture the scene………. I am sitting in a coffee shop in Stafford, the weather outside is damp and dark, winter is on the way, but inside the pace is buzzing. There are all ages in there teenagers, young families, right through to the older generation. The staff are young and love to chat and banter with the people they are serving. And while you wait for you hand made coffee and drink and breakfast to arrive you can play board games, people watch and talk.

Into the cafe walked I guess a Mum and little girl. I say guess Mum because well you will see. The Mum went to the counter ordered the food while the little girl sat at the table. Mum walked back and as she did she picked up a trendy art magazine that are dotted around the place, and without saying a word handed the little girl a smartphone, and for the next 35 minutes even when their drinks arrived, did not speak, make eye contact with each other and the only words were at the end when Mum (or whoever) just said hurry up finish that drink……… and they left.

While on the table beside us was two young families, they were chatting to each other and all the time including the children. They spoke to them, helped one colour in a picture they were totally connected with the children and each other.

So are we as resellers connected to our customers, or are we silently pipping at our phones sending out messages hoping people are watching, listening and buying? And the only person who can answer that question is you. So are you disconnected from your customers or are you fully connected.

Taking Your Business Mobile

A few short years ago the thought of taking your Amazon and eBay business mobile would Taking Your Business Mobilehave just been a dream or something you read in a sci-fi magazine. But today on 2015 having that opportunity is no longer a dream. It can happen. But hands in the air (or leave a comment below), how many of you are using the technology we have and truly taking your business mobile?

Or put it another way, when was the last time you listed something while you were outsourcing in a shop.  For me it was Saturday, I had bought a few items in a charity shop and while I was sitting on the bus on the journey home, I opened up the app on my phone. I used ScanPower this time. I scanned the item and then sent it to my list in the cloud. So by the time I got home, there was the list ready for me to print labels and send into Amazon right there on my desk top.

Also I use the eBay App and I have taken pictures with my iPad and there in the app I list the item. Yes the first few times it does take a bit of getting used to how the app works but once you have listed a half dozen items you will speed through the listings. Now I am going to be very honest here, although I like the iPad eBay App, I would not like to use it to do a major listing session as I find the process too slow, but to list a few items on the fly, no problem.

It seems each week that goes past we see new apps appearing for our smart phones and computers, some are just fun ones, while there are a few that if used in the correct fashion will make the life of the mobile reseller so much easier.  They do really give you that flexibility to work anywhere in the world, where you have a laptop (or tablet / smart phone) and access to the internet.

On a practical note I use the following :

  • Dropbox
  • Evernote
  • ScanPower
  • Amazon Sellers App
  • eBay App
  • Terapeak
  • Plus a few others

By storing the images in say Dropbox or Evernote and also your titles, descriptions for items you are listing, all you need do in a spare minutes just open up the laptop and start to list your items.

If you have a favourite App please share it below and help others brace the possibility of taking your business mobile.

Are You Living A Generous Lifestyle?

To start living a generous lifestyle is not about money. Sadly in this modern day society if you ask people are they living a generous lifestyle most will say not a chance we do not have enough cash to live on…….let alone give money away. It is not about the money, yes it is nice if you had the money to share with others, but you can live a generous lifestyle in so many different ways.

  • For example giving someone in the street a simple smile.
  • Saying thank you to the checkout person at the supermarket, it is amazing when I am in a store people do not say a simple thank you and give a smile.
  • Helping someone with their shopping to their car.
  • Cutting a neighbours lawn or doing their garden
  • Baking a cake or a meal for someone who is sick, or just come out of hospital.
  • Take a friend, colleague, neighbour out for a cup of coffee or tea (or even a meal).
  • What about just paying for someone’s drink, or meal in a restaurant, scary yes.
  • Just spending time with a friend or loved one. Yes this simple act is what living a generous lifestyle is all about.

As you can see this simple acts of living a generous lifestyle can cost nothing apart from a bit of time or a simple smile. But the difference it can make in someone’s life can make a massive difference to them.

If you do one of the above at least once a day, very soon you will have random people in the street just giving you a smile, saying thank you if you hold a door open and the list goes on.

Also you will see a difference in your business all from a simple smile – but how can you live this generous lifestyle online? Well let’s take a look.

  • Just say thank you to someone who gives you a tip or shares some information.
  • Maybe share a link t your own page on Facebook

  • Put a simple thank you note in parcels going out.

I hope this helps you to see how living a generous lifestyle can make a difference in so many peoples lives. Why not ty it tomorrow and share below the reaction you had. Just try it, and start on the exciting journey of living a generous lifestyle.

The Sun Is Out, Holidays Are Here, But Are You Still Sourcing?

Yes it is that time of year when the sun is out, schools are breaking up and Do You List During The summer holidayspeople are more interested in having fun outside and thinking about that holiday they have been planning on for over a year, and for most the online selling has taken a back burner. Now do not get me wrong holidays are good, time to spend lazy fun filled days with family and friends and to recharge those batteries, but should we just forget about sourcing and our business for a few weeks?

Well, sorry to say, we are in business and if we run the business on our own with maybe a few VA’s and a Prep Company then we do need to keep a watchful eye on the business. No I do not mean you need to take your laptops with you and have them on 16 hours a day, just your smart phone (and maybe a tablet) with the Amazon Sellers App on will do, something to just check for any messages from buyers, as you do not want to allow these to go over the 24 hour period, and yes maybe peek at sales, – it is fun to watch those sales happening while you are somewhere in the world relaxing.

As for sourcing while you are away. Well some people love to do this few a few hours in their day. Depending on where you are in the world, you might find some cool products at super cool prices that you can buy and flip onto Amazon. If it is only a few items these can go in your suitcase, but if you go mad and buy loads then you may need to make up some UPS / DHL etc boxes and send them back home ready for you send into Amazon on your return home.

Also if you time it right you can order items just before you go away, this therefore allows your prep company to work on everything and send them into Amazon for you, while you relax. (You just need to work on labels etc, but several prep companies now use user permissions to access your account to print labels)

So there you are done right, you can be relaxing somewhere in the world on a beach, and all the time the mighty Amazon is selling your items and making you nice profits.
