Seasons On eBay

Before we get into the main part of this article I would like to quote something :

“There is a time for everything
and a Season for every activity
in heaven………

A time to be born and a time to die

Ecclesiastes 3 : 1-2

Many will be thinking what on earth has this to do with eBay and online selling. In fact it has a lot to do with eBay and business in general. So I am going to take it line by line and try and show how there is a time a season in eBay and the products you sell.

@ There is a time for everything and a Season for every activity in heaven – In todays world and selling online you will find that there is a time for everything. A time when a product will sell and a time when it does not sell. There is a time when you will list and a time when you do not list. To highlight this let me paint a picture. A new seller comes online and joins eBay, they joing in late September and they see Costumes are selling big time and sellers are selling multiple products a day. So our new seller decides to buy a pallet load. Buy by the time they get the order it is now late October and although they sell items it is just one or two a day. Not what they saw in September. What has gone wrong ? Halloween…………………… The new seller saw traffic and buyers in the Halloween season. Yes costumes sell all year but there is a popular time, when these sell like mad.

@ A time to be born and a time to die – In business there will be times when it is time to start a new business and also there will be a time to close a business down. This is just life, and we should never hold onto a business if it’s time has come to close down. Also it does not have to be a business it can be a product too. There will be a time in your business to add new products and there will be a time when we need to kill off products that do not sell or are costings us money.

When we are doing research we need to be careful of these seasons in business and in product trends. It is a known fact Christmas Trees sell, everyone knows this, but do they sell in the summer ? No because of the season. There are products that only sell for Thanksgiving Day and afterwards they trickle off to sell just a few a week. As a seller we need to be aware of this and factor this into our product sourcing. So as you prepare to sell in the year ahead be aware of the seasons in eBay.
