Royal Mail Price Increase

Well it is that time of year again here in the Uk, the time of the Royal Mail Price Increase. Royal Mail have put up the cost of postage once again, and in general you are looking at between a 10% – 12% increase in the prices.  As online sellers we need to factor this into our costings. As sellers we can either pass the increase on to our customers, add the increase onto the price of the item, or cover the increase from the profit we make on the item.

These price increases from Royal Mail, are no surprise as they happen every year in April. Yes we can complain about, we can have a rant on the message boards, and complain when we take our parcels to the Post Office, but……………….. this is part of online selling, and it is apart of life, and as sellers we just need to get on with life. Sorry to be so blunt about it, but all the moaning in the world will not alter the price increase, and all the energy and time we spend on complaining could be better spent on listing and selling more items.

So what does the Royal Mail Price Increase look like in real life. Well 1st class post is going up from 41p to 46p this is an increase of 12%.  This will make an average package sent through Royal Mail of between 251g-500g cost £2.48 (the old price was £2.26) this is an increase of around 10%. For more details on the Price Increase go to Royal Mail and you will be able to download all the new pricing.

Once you go over the 500g it is always worth looking at some of the other carriers. Now if you are only sending out a few packages aweek or month it is better going through a broker such as Parcels 2 Go as they give you fantastic discounts over a normal account with carriers such as DHL etc.

So in closing stop moaining about the Royal Mail Price Increase, get listing, get selling and get on with life, and if you really hate the price increase, give up selling online, it really is that simple.
