Here in the Uk we have just had a two day strike by members of the Royal Mail (Thursday and Friday). If you look at some of the figures 180 million items of mail have back logged up and this could take days or weeks to clear as long as there are no more strikes. If there are then goodness knows what will happen.

If you look back over time the Postman or Postlady knew the people they delivered to. They knew their names, birthdays, they shared in the joys and the sorrows of family life. If you have ever watched Postman Pat ( A childrens cartoon – post people were really like that).

Now some still are, but sadly that personal touch has been lost.

Recently I have been using DHL – this is due to cost they work out at times £8.00 a parcel cheaper. But they pick the parcel up from your home, they chat with you, they are friendly.

Now as business people we need to take a hard look and see if Royal Mail is the best provider, and if they can be trusted to get our mail there on time and to the right people.

I for one hope they can and do pull through this hard and difficult period, because the country would really miss Royal Mail as we know and love them – but only time will tell, and each day they strike, will mean many more will need to move to another provider. Sad but  true. So use the next few days, look at your post items and see if Royal Mail is still the best method of delivery.
