Is It Good To Split Items
Something that I have known for a long time that is can be good to split up items, but never really took action on is to split up items I have bought as lots or sets. The first time I split up a set was when I bought a coffee set from a local charity shop. For me I paid near my top end for buying…. The reason was I had sold a set like this in the past and it had sold for 8 times what I had just paid. I paid £10.00 for 6 coffee cups and saucers, 8 Tea Plates, , 1 Sugar basin, Cream Jug, Hot Water Jug.
As I had some spare time I decided to try out this theory, and see if it is good to split items rather than sell as a set. Anyway I took the Wedgwood Coffee set and took photo’s of the coffee cups and saucers, and other items. Then I wrote a listing for the items and listed :
6 x Cups and Saucers
8 x Tea Plates
1 x Sugar Basin
1 x Cream Jug
1 x Hot Water Jug
I then did something else I do not normally do and sold them at auction (I normally do Buy It Now). And I started everything off at 0.99p I figured if everything sold at the 0.99p I would still make a small profit. I listed them on a Sunday evening, and then went to bed. Within days they all had bids on nothing big, but it did prove it was good to split items. And I figured I would have around £10.00 profit.
Roll on following Sunday loads of watchers and I figured it would be a £15.00 profit. Two people were bidding one in Australia and one in Germany. I went for something to eat and came back just after the auctions had finished………………………………………………… I was in shock, Once I had added up the totals, less paypal and eBay fees etc, I had made……………………………… £350.00 profit.
So next time you have a set or collection think hard and maybe it might be time to see if it is good to split items and make some extra profit.
