How To Haggle With eBay
Let’s start with a question…………………Do You Use Best Offer With eBay ?. Why when we go abroad to different countries such as the Middle East, we go to the markets and love to haggle with the stall holders. To some people their whole aim is to get the gift for a long lost family member at the cheapest cost. They get a buzz out of the haggle. The stall holder comes in with a high price, you come in at the lowest price and this goes on for a few minutes or at times hours. In the end the deal is done. The buyer is happy and the seller has made money. But why when we come home, and go to the shops we always pay the asking price ?
Now let’s think about eBay……………………… To many sellers they live and breathe the Auctions, while others love Buy It Now, and others mix and match the two. But did you know that there is a little box on the seller listing form called “Best Offer“, I guess you will have seen it. Now some people know what it is and choose to not use it, while others have no idea what is is, so again just leave it out. But I can tell you now that if you do not use it, you are leaving money on the table time after time.
So what is “Best Offer” in simple terms it is where your customers can haggle with you. To help you understand I will give you a quick example of a recent “Best Offer” I did – (In fact 95% of my items include the “Best Offer”). Recently I have been selling some items for a Trading Assistant Client and as some were worth a lot of money, I did not want to sell them at Auction, so I put them all on as a Buy it Now, with the prices set at the top end of the value of the items. But I also knew that people would not also want to pay that price, so I set up the “Best Offer” process – well I say process all you do is click a few buttons.
Now this is where the fun starts………………………….. Your items go live, people see them. Now one of the bears I was selling over at Linford Direct Auctions was on sale at £75.00, this was the top end of the second hand value, of the item, within a short time I had an offer come in of £65.00 for the bear, I clicked on accept, as I knew this was a very fair offer.
Another bear was on for £60.00 and I had an offer of £25.00, now this was not Ok, so I did a counter offer of £50.00, they came back with £45.00, I accepted.
I do most of my Best Offer sales on a manual basis choosing to see each offer and excepting or declining each deal – My reason is when I am selling a collection for a client, quite often buyers will buy multiple items and you may be prepared to go lower on some of the items. Fot those who want a more hand off approach, you can set the system up to accept and decline offers on auto-pilot.
Hope this article has helped you use Best Offer With eBay
