It does not matter how big or how small your business is, there is one major thing that matters and that is Good Customer Service. It is a very sad reflection of online and offline businesses today that they offer very poor customer service. In today’s society it is very important to go that extra mile with a client or customer. If they get upset with you they can just move on and find another company who will look after them. When you are selling to a customer or providing a service you should treat the person who buys one item a year or 10,000 items a day the same. You should always be pleased to hear from them and deal with emails and phone calls the same.
By going the extra mile with a client /customer you will always have a customer for life and when a problem comes up (which it will), they will be happy to wait while you sort it out. Always be that one step ahead of a client so that you are never caught out. So how can you go that extra mile with a customer and not have it eat into your time.
@ You can send out regular emails to me with helpful hints and tips. This can be sent out on a weekly or monthly basis.
@ When people buy from you, include a little thank you note in the parcel
@ If the item the person has bought requires help (such as a cake tin for example) a week after they bought it, send them an email and say I have just found this recipe and thought you might like to try it in the cake tin you bought last week. This will be a cut and paste job for you and will just take seconds. But your customer will think wow, they have taken the time and trouble to email me. This is going the extra mile.
@ If you have access to this information send them a Birthday Card on their special day.
@ Run a survey and find out what they would like to see on the site or if they would like a special service. Again this is going the extra mile and not only will it give you the information you need for your business, it will also make the customer feel special as you are asking them for their input in your business.
If at the end of the day, your client does have a problem do all you can to sort it out, and if you can keep that smile on your face and thank them very much for their custom over the past years, and you would love to see them back some day. Your customers and clients are very important to you. If you upset just one, that one person could tell loads of people and very soon the business you built up could have customers leaving. Offer good customer service and you will have a customer for life.
