Do Not Have Your Eggs All In One Basket

I would guess most of you have heard the term, “Do not have your eggs all in one basket“, I believe what people were saying is in the past when people went around the fields and hedge rows collecting the eggs from their hens, people used to put them all in one big basket. All seems well and in time and motion studies it would be the best thing to do. But what happened if you fell, or the handle on the basket gave way ?

All your hard work (not forgetting the work of those poor hens) would be wasted. There would be no food, or cakes on the table and worse still no eggs to sell at the market. Is there are a solution to the egg collector, well yes carry different baskets and only put a few dozen eggs in each basket, that way if a basket broke or someone fell over, the disaster although bad would not be as worse if you had the eggs all in one place.

Now you may be thinking what on earth has all the above got to do with Internet Marketing and Business, well in some ways nothing at all, while in another way it has everything to do with it. Let me explain………………………………..

Let us say you had an online business, and had put your heart and soul into it, invested money, time and energy, things were going well, you were starting to make money on a regular basis,and then one day, you were earning enough to give up your job. Everything was perfect, you could spend time with loved ones and still make money. Then one morning you turned on the computer and went to your site, nothing, you checked back few hours later, the site was still down. You did not panic, as you know sites go down, but by the time it was evening and still nothing a sick feeling was there, I have not sold anything. You email the company and go to bed. Next morning still no site and no email from the company, you phone them, the line in engaged and it is engaed all day, and the next and the next. A week later the site is back, but all your items were not in the store in fact the whole site was empty as they had to rebuild the site.

Now I know the above story may sound a bit silly and far fetched,, but it is also true. If you were only using one sales platform and had never tried another site, it would take you ages to learn new platforms and each day you were losing sales and customers. When you work online it is very easy to have your products on several different platforms without much extra work. Also if you just sell “Real” products, why not learn how to sell affiliate items, this way you can have different money making businesses working for you 24/7 and if one stops working one day, you always have the others working for you, until the one starts up again or you can find some thing to replace it.

I know I have just said you need to have several things going at one time, but please take a step at a time, perfect one then move one, and if you feel over worked, stop adding income streams and work on the ones you can cope with. By having several online and affiliate businesses working for you, you will never have your eggs all in one basket.
