PayPal Fee Changes Coming In September

Well here is some advance warning about “PayPal Fee Changes Coming In September“, now before you all start to panic and scream, shout and rant, and want to say one thing…………………..Get Over It, Or Get Out Of Business. Sorry to be so blunt with people, but ladies and gentlemen we are in business, and PayPal is one of our expenses. Yes you could swap to someone like WorldPay and put on your eBay listings that you take other credit cards.

But before you all run off and do that it will cost around £600 to sign up for an account, then a monthly fee of around £25.00, then a % fee that is higher than PayPal then a per transaction fee that is higher too. Yes you could swap to another Merchant Provider, but they all cost way more than PayPal and most do not online retailers.

The fees PayPal have been charging and will be charging are really nothing, and we all know PayPal and can trust them and they have been around many years.

To find out more about the changes in PayPal and the new fees check out the Updates Here. Over the next few weeks I will take time and make some notes that I hope will help you understand the fee changes (if there are any at all for your country, and in some cases the fees are lower).

Over the years Paypal has grown from a small company and an idea to one of the major online processing companies. Paypal deals in many millions of pounds over the year, and now is accepted as payment in many more places and not just on eBay. For example let us say you are out with a bunch of friends for a meal and you pay with your Credit Card, if you have the paypal app on your phone you can send all your friends a paypal invoice and within seconds have the money in your paypal account.

But Paypal is also being taken in many other shops and businesses and one of these is Argos. Argos will now let you buy products online and you can use your Paypal balance to pay for the items. Now this is a big plus for all. Buyers often think of their Paypal balance as play money, they sell some items on eBay and the money is just sitting there for a rainy day. This is a win situation for sellers

Over the coming weeks and months I believe we will see Paypal being used as a processor in more and more places, and in the not too distance future when we buy something in a store, we can take out our phone, press a few buttons and the money will be transfered from our PayPal account to the store owner. How powerful is that ???

If you sell online and sell on sites such as eBay then the Paypal iPhone App is for you. While you are out and about you can check to make sure people have paid you, and follow up on the ones who have not paid you.

But as always eBay and PayPal are one step ahead of the curve for your PayPal App offers so much more. For instance you are out with a mate and they owe you some money, and you both have an iPhone with the PayPal on – well just bump the phones together enter the amount and the amount is transferred. Or there is a group you can split the bill and and each pays what they owe.

In fact the list goes on and on, the PayPal app gets better by the day. For more information you need to check out  https://www.paypal.com/mobile there you can see what a difference this iPhone App will make to your business.

I guess that if you have been online for a few weeks or more you will have come across a company called PayPal. Paypal allows you to send and receive payments, not only for goods you have bought off eBay ( eBay owns PayPal), but you are able to use PayPal on a growing number of other sites around the internet.

And other recent months some brick and mortar shops and business allow people to pay with PayPal.

One of the big worries people have when buying online is the fact that they have to give over their personal information, and credit card details.

A useful tip for people out there, when you are buying or shopping online there are several pointers to look out for to keep you safer.

1) when you visit a site and go to pay look at the address you should see that the http bit has changed to https to added s means that it is on a secure server.

2) Often down at the right bottom of your browser you will see a padlock and as long as this is shut or closed then again it is on a secure server.

3) Some Anti-Virus software turns where you see the address either green or red as well. If it is green then it should be safe, and if it is red take care. Now you will notice that I say only take care and not to not shop. This is because the software could be out of date, or people have not said that it is safe (a lot of anti-virus software relies on their “public” to tell them a site is safe or not.

Now back to the main reason for this article, you will often hear people say…OK we do not have to give out credit or debit card details when we are using PayPal but all that is protecting us between the bad guys and girls is an email address and password. – PayPal do have other things as well in place to safe guard us.

For this reason PayPal along with Verisign have bought out the PayPal Security Key. This security key come in two forms.

1) It comes as a small fob (You do have to pay a few pounds or dollars for the fob)

2) You can use your mobile or cell phone and the only cost is the cost of sending a message.

You can sign up for this extra bit of security at the paypal site. Once you have signed in you, you go along to my profile, and then down the left hand side you will see PayPal Verisign key, click on this link and follow the instructions.

If you already have a verisign key then you may be able to use this. And once you have a security key you can use it on eBay and other sites.

The key gives you a random six digit number and you add this to the end of your password. This number is good for thirty seconds and then changes.

So now you have email, password and a six digit number so you are loads safer.

When you first get your key you log into say paypal and register the code number on the back and it is then set to use. If you want to use same key on eBay you need to register the code number on eBay.

Each key has a unique code and each key gives out random six digit numbers every thirty seconds.

Does this key make your accounts un-hackable ? Sadly no, but it goes a long way to help you.

If you wish to use your mobile / cell phone then each time you want to log into PayPal or eBay you send a text and they send a six digit number back, again this is OK for thirty seconds.

Stay safe and happy buying and selling.

Sorry
Andrew

Hi,

Over the next few weeks, having taken advice from Janelle Elms of OSI RockStars I am changing parts of this blog.

For example I have bought a new domain name and will be using this for my Education Specialist Program, and  this will be a static site with just a few articles there, but the base will be the classes I teach. this will be on LinfordDirectTraining . com (This is NOT live yet).

And I have bought another name for my Trading Assistant business.  This is on Trading-Assistant-In-Staffordshire . com again as yet this is not live.

Then I shall use this blog, to post hints and tips, product sources etc, and as the two new ones will be more static I shall not have to spend loads of time on them, just updating when I add new classes etc.

Have you wanted to shop online and prefer to use a card instead of cash in shops, but can’t get a credit card, then we may have the product for you.

The PayPal Top Up Card is a reloadable card that gives you the complete control to be able to pay as you go when shopping online, in shops or over the internet or even when on holiday. It is not a debit, credit or store card, but works the same way. It can be used abroad and is safer than carrying cash.

You buy the PayPal Top Up Card card for £4.95 which you can pay for via your PayPal account, if you have one, or if you don’t have a PayPal account, you will need to pay this from your first top up (please note that if you aren’t topping up from a PayPal account, a small fee is charged for topping up). Once you’ve topped up your card, you are free to use it practically anywhere you like, which means almost anywhere you see the Visa symbol. And when you are running low on funds, you can simply top it up again and carry on. It is really as simple as that.

You can be budgeting your shopping, controlling your cash flow or saving your holiday money, using the PayPal Top Up Card helps because this means that you are limited to only spending the money you have put on your card.

The Top Up Card is also great for traveling. It is easier than arranging foreign currencies, and with a PayPal account you can top up while you are away. Please note that there are certain fees payable where transactions are undertaken abroad
