Why Paper and Pen ?

• We all should have a to-do list, and if possible we should have this done the night before – this is because we can wake up in the morning and get straight to work and not have to think what needs to be done. And yes I know we can do this online, I do, but also I have a handwritten list right beside me. And the reason why I suggest paper and pen for this is because once you have done an item you can cross it off by hand. There is something that makes you feel good, when you take your pen and delete an item – doing this action online just does not work.
• Carrying a notebook around with you when you are out and about. This will allow you to jot thoughts down, product ideas, catchy titles, phone messages. And the list goes on and on. Yes again most can be done with a smartphone, but have you tried talking on phone and entering a note at the same time ? Comments below.
• If you look at the top business people around the world they will always tell you to carry a Pen and Pad around with you. Now this can be a scrap of paper right through to a leather bound note book and also Filofax type products again the list is endless, but what these top people say is where possible also write on yellow paper this is due to the brain working better with yellow – don’t ask me, I just know it works.
• Also the act of writing something by hand helps your brain focus and remember better.

I guess as you are reading this post you use the Internet to make money, either on a full time basis or a part time basis. But it does not matter how much you make online, apart from having a computer the other most important thing that all online sellers need is Internet access. But do you also have a backup in case your main Internet goes down ?

It will depend where you live in the world, but I would guess most people now use Broadband (cable), some may still use dial up and others could you satellite. You wake up in the morning ready to list on eBay and your day is going well, you have plans to list all day, but suddenly your modem flashes no Internet connection. You do the normal checks and it still does not work. Your heart sinks……………. You could go to the local Internet cafe, and hope their Internet is working, but it costs a lot per hour. Suddenly your listing day has gone out the window.

Now if you do not have a back-up plan you will need to spend the day taking more pictures, writing up descriptions ready for when your Internet comes back up. But this will not make you money. But do not worry all is not lost, we live in the 21st century and we have cool gadgets such as wireless dongle etc. Sitting in a draw I have a wireless dongle which is with O2, and also a Wi-Fi unit which is with the 3 network. These will allow me to quickly get my Internet connection back up and running. I have them on Pay As You Go, so they do not cost me much to run, and there is no monthly contract. The great thing about the Wi-Fi unit from free is I can also use it with my iPhone when I am out and about.

So can I encourage you to invest some money in one of these back-up methods, so that when your internet does go down, you will not be left not able to work online.
