Helping You Take Your Business To The Next Level

Browsing Posts in Diary

Today was planned to be a picture taking day and research day, but like all good plans the all went out the window, by 8am. One of my clients sent me a very distressed email about how their pictures on their listings had vanished. My client hosts on a web hosting account.

I logged in and yes sure enough they had vanished, did a double check on another computer and nothing there. I emailed client and they have me password and user name for their hosting account. All the pictures were there, which was something.

Then it took around an hour to work out what was wrong (I even phoned up hosting company- and could not help or would not) I am so glad I host with Godadday.

Anyway another hour and the work around I worked out did work and my clients pictures are starting to appear again. The bad news is each image has to be re-coded with this strange tag.

So good news is by the next few days my client should have all images back up and running.

More news tomorrow

How many times in life have you drifted along and said one day, or tomorrow, I will start. If you are like most people I would say quite often, and hands in the air I have too. But I am putting up hand here and saying I am putting a marker in the sand.

So I thought, talk is cheap, but if I put it down in writing then I am telling the world what I want and need to do. So starting tomorrow, I will be adding a diary section on this blog, to keep you up to date on what I am doing, will be doing in my eBay and Amazon business.

So keep a look out for my diary and also all the regular updates, that will be coming your way, to help you grow your eBay business.

The £1,000 Challenge

We are almost at the end of January, can you believe it ? Time is already flying by. But also all those nasty bills from the holiday season will be hitting our door mats sooner or later, that is not a nice thought. While I was thinking about the next few months and how my business was going, I let my mind drift a bit. I began to think of all those worried faces when those bills came.

Here in the UK we have had very cold weather and a lot of people will be getting sky high utility bills, and I thought what if there was a way to help overcome these debts and bills. And the idea came to me of the £1,000 challenge. –

What if over the next 90 days we could add an extra £1,000 or ($) into our bank accounts, this works out at 333.00 per month, 12.00 per day.

Now if you want to go for a higher target than that is upto you, but I think 1,000 is reachable by most people.

The Rules

@ It must be legal

@ It must be ethical

@ And you must be willing to share your ideas and progress here.

The System

@ In the comments below please share your ideas on how you are going to reach the goal – eBay, Affiliate Marketing, Amazon, etc, etc. If you are worried about sharing your niche then just outline the system, so that we can all share the ideas with each other. And let’s make some money.

In today’s post, I would like to cover an area, a lot of people are afraid to comment on. And to me, I was, but as I grow in myself and my business, I can see a need to be fully transparent in all I do. So I have come up with this post called “How I Work”.

On January 1st 2011, I am earning all my income from online work, and some offline consulting work. For me this is a major step and I have taken time to prepare for us. Have I done the right thing ? Only time will tell, but with all the guidance and help I have received I feel right now it is. But if I find it is not work out as I expected, I shall take other steps. Since I was 16 I have been self-employed, yes it has been a struggle and there have been times when I would have earned more money being on the dole or welfare, but I never lost sight that I need to work, and carried on.

When you look at how I earn / work, it is broken down into 3 main areas -

1) Product Sales -             eBay, Amazon, Etsy, and own site.

2) Affiliate -                       Adsense, CJ, Amazon, EPN, Squidoo and Sundry

3) Consulting / Training – Also in this area is Outsourcing Work, I do for eBay sellers etc.

The affiliate side of my business I work on as and when. I build mini sites and blogs and leave them be. If I see a site suddenly receive lots of traffic I might turn it in a bigger site, but normally just let them drip feed money into my account.

The product sales is where I earn the major part of my business and is where I try and build month on month.

Lastly the third area is like the icing on the cake, and is an area I am looking at building in 2011.

I hope this short blog post has helped you see how and where I earn money in my business and will give you some tips and ideas to grow your income in 2011 and beyond.

Good Days And Bad Days

As I write this article we are 7 days (a week) into the New Year. And I am the first to put my hand in the air and say I had a Good Christmas, fun times with family and friends and also a good time online and my sales have been on the up. Those were the good days. Then the last few days have been bad very bad. Some I cannot share as they are too personal, but others I want to share and show you if you approach things in a good way, then there can be light at the end of the tunnel.

The last few days  have had two requests for a refund. The first was from a girl who had bought a camera off me (brand new) for a Chrsitmas present for her mum. She bought this back in October. The other day she emailed me and said she had tried several times to get the flash to work. And she explained in case they were doing something wrong, they downloaded a full instruction book and followed it to the letter, still nothing, she she emailed me and asked me what she should do. I emailed her back and said their was a refund on the way. She was a happy girl and left great feedback.

Today I had a phone call from another customer who had bought an 1970 Amp from me. I was selling this for a client, (a local Charity group), and thanked me very much for a prompt delivery and how well it was packed. It weighed 21KG !!!!  But he had plugged it in and within seconds it burst into flames. Not good. Again straight away I gave him a refund, and told him to just keep the amp and throw it away. He was shocked that I gave him a prompt refund and he even offerd to send me photo’s of the amp with smoke pouring out of it.

Some people say I am too fast when I refund, but I like to treat customers the way I would like to be treated. And if I had bought something that was faulty, I would expect a refund straight away.  Both these customers had been on eBay a long time and both had good feedback, and I could just tell from speaking to them on the phone that they were telling the truth.

If you live in the Lichfield WS13, WS14, WS15 area and have items you would like me to sell for you, then drop me a line on 07818 532 788, and I will be happy to chat through the services that I offer.

As I write this post, here in the Uk we are around 4 hours away from a New Year. My question and challenge to you and also to myself is “What changes are we going to make in our lives,, so that this time next year we can look back on 2011 with a smile and say yes we took action and have made a difference in our lives and the lives of others.

Having our business we are able to make our lives a better place, Yes at times we may fail. Now I am going to be honest here with you, a few years ago I was afraid to admit I had failed or I had choosen the wrong path, and either quietly stepped aside and not said anything or just carried on. But today 31st January 2011 my life has been changed by people such as Janelle Elms and OSI Rock Stars, I have learnt to admit my mistakes and my failures and that there is nothing wrong to change course with my business.

Also we only need to look at some of the top business people such as Richard Branson and they had failures. It is with these failures we learn what not to do. And then move on. And when we failure we can teach others how to avoid the mistakes we made in life and business.

2011 is coming to be a great year, yes we will have challenges, but when we put into practice what we have learnt and take action steps each day, we will have success.

Here’s wishing you all a Great and Blessed New Year

Where I Earn My Money

Through this post I hope to show you in an open and honest way where I earn money on a daily basis. Yes I could hide the fact and keep it a secret, but as a Christian and also a consultant I believe I should be open and honest with my readers.

Also it will add a kind of new direction that this blog will be taking, shock horror I hear you cry, but I hope it will help you have bigger and stronger businesses to. So lets get started :

@ eBay Selling – This is the main area of my business. I buy and and sell on eBay on a daily basis, using several accounts. Within this eBay business, I sell my own items that I source on a rgular basis, and also I act as Trading Assistant for other people and sell items for a commission.

@ eBay Training and Consulting – I help, businesses, Voluntry Sector and Individuals get started on eBay. Also help people open shops, and help and advice people on product sourcing.

@ Sell On Amazon – As with eBay I sell on Amazon on a regular basis, and as with eBay I also sell for other people on there and also train people how to sell on there.

@ Internet Marketing and Social Media – I have a wide range of mini-sites and blogs which bring in small amounts each. These sites and blogs are in different niches and different platforms, this gives me exprience of all the popular sites, so that I can help help get a head start and not make the same mistakes that I did.

So as you can see I make my money from basically three angles :

1)   Selling on eBay / Amazon,
2)  Consulting ,
3)  Internet Marketing (This also includes Affiliate Marketing.)

I hope that this answers the question to people who have been asking me over recent weeks and months. And this leads me into the new direction that I shall be taking this blog.

@ The main focus will still be all things eBay, but I shall also be talking about Amazon and Affiliate and Social Marketing as this is what people have been wanting and asking me. And if used in the correct way you will find your monthly income will continue to grow, and as they say “You should never have your eggs all in one basket”

When I first started to blog it used to take time as the software was sometimes playing up and the Internet was real slow. We then had cool plugins that let us do loads of things and these plugins saved time. People were do fantastic themes. But with all of these cool things we were still limited to being by a computer with Internet access, but not any more if you have an iPhone and the cool wordpress plugin you can blog anywhere in the world where your iPhone works. Go on give it a go.

So sorry for the lack of postings my internet has been down more than it has been up, and been using it to just check on eBay and Amazon as my customers and orders are very important. So this brings me to my thought for today, if we work 100% online we need to have a back up if the internet goes down for a long time. Yes we can use the local library or go to a friends, but if we run a business this is not practical. So what can be done ?

Well one thing is buy a pay as you go dongal with a mobile phone company who offers internet in your area, this will allow you to continue to use the internet if your main one goes down.

Hope this helps. And have been promised it will all be back to normal by weekend.

Spent a fantastic time at Church. A wonderful baby was dedicated (we do not Christen Children), then the whole Church had lunch together. A wonderful time together and fantastic weather made a perfect day.

Have spent rest of time sorting out some paperwork and getting ready some items to list tomorrow so keep and eye out for some new items in my store. Also have added a new squidoo lens to my growing lenses, you can go and take a look over at http://www.squidoo.com/Children-Love-Wooden-Toys . These lenses only take around 30 minutes to make and over time they should start to bring in some nice income from affiliate sales. But also they help with traffic to my blog and eBay store.

Have a great day where ever you are in the world.
